Offer Description
The Director of the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow, announces an open competition for the position of Assistant Professor in the field of synthesis and characterization of solid electrolytes for sodium-ion batteries under the SONATA 19 research project No. 2023/51/D/ST11/01287 in the DIVISION OF APPLIED GEOCHEMISTRY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING.
Candidates should meet the conditions set out in Article 89, paragraph 3. Act on the Polish Academy of Sciences of April 30, 2010, with subsequent changes.

Skills/Qualifications
Requirements:
- Ph.D. degree in the field of engineering and technology, in the discipline of environmental engineering, mining and energy or materials engineering or similar, received not earlier than 01.01.2019
- Authorship or co-authorship of published, peer-reviewed scientific papers,
- A certificate confirming proficiency in English or another congress language (German, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian) at a level of at least B2,
- Documented academic achievements and involvement in research related to the subject area of the competition, confirmed by a substantive opinion from the current supervisor.
Specific Requirements
An additional advantage will be:
- significant scientific achievements in the synthesis of materials for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries,
- experience in applying machine learning to the study of solid electrolytes,
- experience in the use of advanced characterization techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, and XAS,
- proficiency in using Python, VASP, Materials Studio, CrystalMaker, and Origin.

Eligibility criteria
When applying for the competition, the following documents must be submitted:
- Application for employment addressed to the Director of the Institute with a signed information clause (Annex 1).
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Document confirming the Ph.D. title in the field of engineering and technology, in the discipline of environmental engineering, mining and energy or materials engineering or similar.
- List of published and ongoing works and projects.
- A recommendation letter from the current supervisor, confirming achievements and engagement in projects related to the subject of the competition.
- A statement declaring that the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute will be the candidate’s primary place of employment (if the competition is won).
- A declaration of acceptance of the competition terms.
- A certificate confirming proficiency in a foreign language as specified in the requirements.
Selection process
Additional information and dates:
- Full-time employment.
- Employment period: fixed-term, 18 months starting 01.10.2026.
- Candidates are requested to submit their applications for the competition exclusively by e-mail to: centrum@min-pan.krakow.pl, with the annotation Competition – Announcement No. 3/2026. Scans of the required documents must be attached to the application. In the event of winning the competition and taking up employment, the originals of the documents will be required.
- The deadline for submitting documents is 28.08.2026. at 12.00 CET.
- The competition results will be announced on 31.08.2026.
