The Role

Jointly led by the Department of Psychology and the Department of Education, the newly established Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology (D.Ed.Psych.) at Maynooth University is a postgraduate professional programme designed to develop highly skilled, ethical, and reflective educational psychologists. The programme is grounded in Maynooth University's core values, with a strong emphasis on equality, diversity, and inclusion. We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as Assistant Professor/Lecturer.
The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to teaching, research supervision, supporting research design, and consulting on data analysis across a range of methodologies implemented in research undertaken as part of the Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology. The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile, that supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate. This post is with both the Department of Psychology and the Department of Education.
Salary:
Assistant Professor / Lecturer: €64,753–€102,539 p.a. (7 points)
Assistant Lecturer (2025): €42,099 – €71,998 p.a. (14 points)
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential
- A PhD in Psychology or close cognate area;
- Registered status or eligibility for graduate membership with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or British Psychological Society (BPS);
- Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment;
- Experience of supervising graduate research students;
- Scholarly research outputs and track record appropriate to career stage, with an emphasis on research in educational or developmental psychology;
- An in-depth knowledge of contemporary research methodologies and analytic approaches relevant to the discipline of Educational Psychology.
- Experience of, and commitment to, working in an interdisciplinary setting;
- Good administrative, organisational, teamwork and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience of supervising research conducted by trainees as part of a professional doctoral programme.
- Practitioner experience in a psychological service.
