Assistant Professor, Microbiology, Virology, Host-Pathogen Interactions (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the areas of virology, microbiology, and host-pathogen interactions. Applicants working in virology, including molecular virology, viral pathogenesis, emerging viral pathogens, and models of viral disease, are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants are expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and actively participate in the teaching and service missions within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stony Brook University. The Department (https://renaissance.stonybrookmedicine.edu/mi) along with the adjacent Center for Infectious Diseases (http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/cid/) provide a highly interactive scientific community through collaborative interactions with faculty throughout the Renaissance School of Medicine and University. The Department is home to two graduate programs and two NIH-funded training grants, providing opportunities for graduate student and postdoctoral fellow mentoring and support. Stony Brook University maintains state-of-the-art core facilities that support areas including microscopy and animal imaging, flow cytometry, RNA and single cell sequencing, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and animal maintenance. A state-of-the-art Laboratory for Comparative Medicine provides facilities for BSL3 and animal BSL3 research. The dynamic intellectual environment includes the Stony Brook University tertiary care Hospital and Cancer Center, nearby Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a VA Hospital and Research Center, and Brookhaven National Laboratory research facilities.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD or MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and three years or more of postdoctoral experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred areas of research interest are those that complement and expand existing departmental strengths in virology, microbiology, and host-pathogen interactions. Applicants working in virology are particularly encouraged to apply. Preferred candidates will have a track record of research, publications, and the potential to procure extramural funding.
