The Los Medanos College Music Department seeks enthusiastic applicants for our full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in our Orchestra & Band/Generalist Music position.

About the Position

The Music Assistant Professor position is responsible for providing high quality classroom instruction to a diverse student population. This position is also responsible for working collaboratively with other faculty in the music department and the college to continually support student success. The Music Assistant Professor is to teach required college level music classes, including: Concert Band. Additional Duties depend on the successful candidates expertise which might include, instrumental ensembles in various styles (Jazz, Pop, Latin, Community, etc.) Music theory/Ear training, Music Appreciation (various Styles available including Classical, Jazz, Rock and R&B, Hip Hop, American, World Music, etc.), Commercial Music, Electronic Music.

This position has an emphasis on expanding the colleges long-running band and general music programs, including directing concerts and ensembles for the department, the campus and within the community. Finally, the professor will be a part of a close-knit faculty team that collaborates closely with shared projects, curriculum development, student engagement strategies, and college initiatives.

The Music Department encompasses Choral/Vocal Studies, Concert Band, Instrumental Music, Midi, Jazz Studies, and Piano courses and ensembles. The current degrees offered by the department include Music and Music for Transfer. Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines;
2. participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs;
3. collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review;
4. engaging in department program improvement initiatives;
5. participating in department, division, and college committees;
6. participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide;
7. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies;
8. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
9. informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements;
10. preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress;
11. maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines;
12. posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy;
13. participating in Colleges shared governance processes.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience

Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty. Masters in music OR Bachelors in music AND Masters in humanities OR the equivalent (If you do not possess the listed degree, you can attach the masters degree equivalency form explaining your background.) OR California Community College System Credential in Music.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Teaching experience at the collegiate level or general music teaching experience, with special weight given to one or more of the following: Instrumental ensembles in various styles (Concert Band, Jazz, Pop, Latin, Community, etc.) Music theory/Ear training, Music Appreciation (various Styles available including Classical, Jazz, Rock and R&B, Hip Hop, American, World Music, etc.), Commercial Music, Electronic Music. 2. Experience in producing innovative performances at the high school, community college or university campus. 3. Experience connecting with area schools and community organizations for recruitment and retention of music students. 4. The ability to play basic piano for rehearsals or instrumental classes.

Salary

Initial salary placement for full-time, tenure track positions is based on academic degree(s), upper/graduate level units earned, teaching experience and/or qualifying related professional occupation experience which ranges from $68,136 to $112,848 per year (Up to $132k).
