Applications are invited for a full-time position of Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics, the Faculty of Physical Sciences, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, University of Iceland.
According to the University of Iceland's rules, the duties of academic staff are divided into three main components: research, teaching, and administration.
Undergraduate teaching is generally in Icelandic. The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach in Icelandic after five years in the position.
Main tasks
- Teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics and applied mathematics
- Research in applied mathematics
- Supervising students' final projects
- Securing research grants
- Taking part in running the department and serving on committees for the faculty, the school or the university

Education Level: PhD or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications
- A PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics or a related field
- University teaching experience
- International research activity in applied mathematics, shown among other things by publications in international journals
- Good spoken and written English
- Good spoken and written Icelandic is desirable
- Good collaboration and interpersonal skills
The successful candidate should have a strong foundation in mathematics so they can teach courses in a wide range of areas, such as numerical analysis, theoretical statistics and general introductory mathematics courses.
The needs and circumstances of the Department of Mathematics and the Faculty of Physical Sciences will be taken into account in the hiring decision.

Additional Information
Wages according to the current collective agreement by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Félag háskólakennara.
The successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible after the relevant committees have finished their work.
The position will be filled for a term of five years, with the possibility of a permanent appointment thereafter, cf. Paragraph 3, Article 31 of the Rules of the University of Iceland No. 569/2009.
The processing of applications, evaluation of candidates' qualifications, and appointment to the position shall follow the provisions of Act No. 85/2008 on Public Universities and the Rules of the University of Iceland No. 569/2009.

The application must indicate which of the applicant's publications, up to eight in total, are considered most significant with regard to the position in question. Applicants should submit only these publications with their application or provide information on where they are electronically accessible. If a submitted work has multiple authors, applicants must clarify their individual contribution to the work.
