Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, Functional Biology (Tenure-Track)
The Department of Biological Sciences at Ohio University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Animal Functional Biology. The expected start date is August 2026. We seek applicants whose research examines trait form and function with a focus on ecological or evolutionary responses to environmental change at the population, community or ecosystem level. We welcome applications from individuals whose research expertise includes biomechanics, functional morphology, eco-physiology, or related fields.
The successful candidate is expected to establish an extramurally funded research program that complements the research strengths of our department which span from molecules to ecosystems. The research and graduate programs of the Department of Biological Sciences are integrated with the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (HCOM) providing ample opportunities for interactions and collaborations. Faculty research is also supported by numerous university initiatives and there are opportunities to collaborate with several other departments, research institutes, and centers at Ohio University including the Ohio Center for Ecological and Evolutionary Studies (OCEES), Department of Environmental & Plant Biology, Department of Geography, and the Environmental Studies program in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service. The department also has access to the Ohio University Land Laboratory, which supports teaching and research.
The successful applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant, world-class research program that will attract external funding, recruit graduate students (MS and PhD), and contribute to collaborative and interdisciplinary research within the department and across the university. The successful candidate is also expected to provide research experiences for undergraduate students and teach one upper-level undergraduate course in organismal biology, and two additional courses that fill departmental teaching needs and are consistent with the candidate's expertise. The individual will also contribute professional service to the department and university.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biology or a related field at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral and teaching experience is preferred.
