Assistant Professor of Biology

The Department of Natural Sciences at Gardner-Webb University (https://gardner-webb.edu/) is seeking qualified candidates to fill a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Biology with emphasis on Anatomy & Physiology at the Assistant Professor level within the Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the main campus in Boiling Springs, NC. This position will be preferred to begin in August 2026 but will be open for a January 2027 start date.
Human Biology, Anatomy & Physiology I, Anatomy & Physiology II, and other Biology courses, as needed. The successful candidate may be asked to teach additional courses in other areas of biology or biochemistry.
Required Qualifications:
- The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to Christian higher education.
- The candidate must hold a PhD in Biology or a related discipline by appointment start date.
- The candidate should have undergraduate teaching and mentoring experience with a record of instructional effectiveness.
- The candidate must have a proven record of scholarly activity.
- The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to community outreach and engagement, as is expected of faculty at GWU.
- The candidate should have a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion demonstrated through pedagogy, research, and/or public engagement.
- The candidate must present a track record that demonstrates exceptional organization, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal relations.
- The candidate must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Teach lectures and laboratories at the undergraduate level, utilizing face-to-face and possibly hybrid or online modalities which will include introductory and advanced anatomy & physiology courses.
- Prepare lab materials, monitor lab safety, and manage biohazardous materials from the classes taught.
- Provide guidance and supervision to students in undergraduate programs housed in the DNS.
- Provide leadership and guidance in the undergraduate programs.
- Pursue an active research agenda, including undergraduate research mentoring.
- Participate in faculty committees and business of the university, including attendance at DNS, College of Arts & Sciences, and GWU faculty meetings.
- Participate in the recruitment of students through university, college, and departmental-sponsored events.
- This position may require occasional travel to attend conferences and meetings.
- Assist the Chair of DNS and/or Dean, College of Arts & Sciences, upon request.
