The Department of Biology at Lander University, a public comprehensive university in the Upstate region of South Carolina, comprises a cohesive and forward-thinking faculty who deliver an outcomes-based curriculum that has been carefully aligned with the goals of the AAAS Vision and Change initiative. Our department seeks to hire an assistant professor to begin in January or August of 2026 with training in plant biology.
Teaching Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities will include a lower-level course in botany and an upper-level plant biology course in an area of the candidates’ expertise, both for biology majors, and may also include introductory courses for majors or non-majors. The ideal candidate will share our passion for innovative teaching using high-impact practices that facilitate learning outside of the classroom, foster meaningful interactions with faculty and students, and provide frequent and substantive feedback. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students and engage in service to the department, college, and university, as well as academic advising.
Salary: Salary determined by experience.
Contract and Teaching Load: Contract period is nine months. Normal teaching load is 12 contact hours each semester.
Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biological field and demonstrable aptitude for teaching biology at the college level. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Application letters should explicitly address the qualifications and desired aptitudes outlined above.
