Francis Marion University and the Department of Biology invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We are seeking candidates who have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research at a comprehensive liberal arts institution.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teach courses in human anatomy and introductory biology as needed and there should be opportunity to teach additional courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Provide service to the department and university in the form of, but not limited to: academic advising, student recruitment, and participation in faculty governance. Develop and maintain an active scholarly research program that engages undergraduate students in collaborative inquiry.

The position is a standard nine-month, tenure-track contract with a teaching load of 7 courses/year (21 contact hours, lab hours fully count). The human anatomy course primarily prepares students interested in applying to professional FMU programs, including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology, as well as forthcoming programs in Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant Studies.

Academic rank and salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience. There is potential to teach additional courses during the summer for additional compensation. Generous internal funding for domestic and international travel, research, student scholarship, and summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.

FMU Requirements: An earned doctorate in biology or a related discipline from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed their degree before their contract starts. Some level of experience teaching human anatomy at the undergraduate level is required.

Application Instructions: Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. A start date of January 1, 2026, is preferred, but will consider candidates for an August 15, 2026, start date as well.

The following application materials are required:
