Job Summary
The Department of Biology at Susquehanna University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in cellular or molecular neuroscience to start in August 2026.
Specific Responsibilities
Primary teaching responsibilities will include a course in the department's introductory sequence (cell biology and genetics with laboratory) and an advanced course in cellular or molecular neurobiology with laboratory. Additional teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate's interests and expertise but may include an upper-level seminar course for majors and/or courses in Susquehanna's Central Curriculum, such as a non-majors science course or a first-year seminar. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research program in cellular or molecular neuroscience that involves undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. is required by August 2026, and college-level teaching experience and/or post-doctoral research experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated success or evidence of potential to excel in teaching and advising undergraduates is essential, as is evidence of a strong commitment to effective and engaging pedagogical practices. Evidence of scholarly productivity is required.
Additional Information for Applicant
Startup funding, additional forms of institutional support, and the opportunity for pre-tenure sabbatical leave are available. The position will contribute significantly to the college's Neuroscience Program, which brings together a collaborative group of faculty from the Departments of Biology and Psychology. The Biology department is housed within the Natural Sciences Center with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.
