Qualifications: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry seeks applicants at the disciplinary interfaces within the "Future of Health" or "Energy, Environment and Sustainability" frameworks described in OU's strategic research plans. Expected instructional contributions are one course (three credit equivalent) per semester at the graduate or undergraduate level in an appropriate subject area. Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or other relevant fields and demonstrate strong accomplishments in their field through additional training, such as postdoctoral research experience.

Description: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is excited to grow our department by adding one new tenure-track faculty position in Theoretical Physical Chemistry, available at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August 2026. Applicants demonstrating plans for establishing a strong research and instructional program in Theoretical Physical Chemistry are encouraged to apply. Research sub-areas of interest within Theoretical Physical Chemistry include but are not restricted to the following: Computational Chemistry, Biology and Materials; Quantum Chemistry and Spectroscopy; Statistical Mechanics in Chemistry; Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence in Chemical Sciences, as well as Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Science.
The University of Oklahoma is regarded as the flagship institution in Oklahoma and has earned a Carnegie R1 status for Doctoral granting Universities with high research activity. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is in the state-of-the-art Stephenson Life Science Research Center, equipped with cutting-edge research facilities. These facilities include in-house NMR instruments (ranging from 400 to 600 MHz), EPR, Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Protein-production cores, X-ray capabilities for both small and macromolecules, Cryogenic Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM) for single particle analysis, a glassblowing facility, an electronics shop, and a chemical stockroom purchasing center. Collaborative opportunities are available within the Department as well as at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and its High-Throughput Screening Center, and the NCI-designated Stephenson Cancer Center. OU researchers also have access to the state-of-the-art computing facilities at the OU Supercomputing Center for Education & Research (OSCER).
The University of Oklahoma, Norman is a vibrant community with a college-town feel. Norman is a modest-sized city with a population of around 130,000, located just 20 miles south of Oklahoma City. Norman has been dubbed the "City of Festivals" with numerous annual events. OU is home to the Fred Jones Jr. Art Museum, the Sam Noble Natural History Museum, vibrant performance arts, and active college sports. The overall cost of living is very affordable, with low housing costs compared to many similar college towns.
