Job Description:
The Department of Music in the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure-track position (F0053) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2026.
Professional responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses, including:
- Directing the auditioned SATB choir
- Directing the auditioned SSA choir
- Teaching Beginning Conducting
- Teaching Choral Methods and Advanced Choral Conducting
- Establishing and maintaining an active agenda of performance and scholarly/creative work
- Collaboration with colleagues, attendance at university and departmental events
Depending on qualifications, additional duties may include collaborating on Musical Theater productions, teaching Show Choir techniques, Aural Skills, and music courses in Civitae, Longwood's signature general education curriculum.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University’s campus.
Requirements:
- The successful candidate must have an earned Doctorate in Music by August 2026.
- University-level applied teaching experience and experience in conducting collegiate choirs are required.
- Preference will be given to candidates whose general teaching credentials in music best complement the expertise of current music faculty.
- Candidates must demonstrate commitment to student recruitment and the development of relationships with secondary school music teachers, show flexibility regarding teaching load, and be willing to collaborate and serve on committees.
- A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with diverse populations and perspectives of students, faculty, and staff in support of the university mission is preferred.
Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, tenure-track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
