Description

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a faculty member at the assistant professor (tenure-track) level whose scholarship advances Learning Technologies in the areas of EC-12 education and teacher education.

We seek a scholar whose research examines the applications, policies, innovations and implications of learning technologies within EC-12 or teacher education contexts. Such scholarship may include, but is not limited to, studies that examine classroom-based applications of technology; youth and educators' uses of generative AI and emerging technologies; and the use of generative AI to reimagine the nature or process of curriculum design, assessment, or teaching. We welcome applicants whose scholarship reimagines the future of education through generative AI and emerging technologies while remaining grounded in the lived experiences, cultural knowledge, and epistemologies of learners and communities. We are particularly interested in candidates who are engaged in preparing the next generation of teachers who will be able to use a range of AI and emerging technology tools to create learning experiences that are meaningful for all learners.

Strong applicants will demonstrate potential for or evidence of a significant research program that contributes to the field of Learning Technologies and has implications for educators, learners, schools, community organizations, or higher education. The successful candidate will be prepared to secure external grants to support a research program with meaningful impact.

The successful candidate will teach and mentor undergraduate students and graduate students. In Learning Technologies, a graduate program, they may teach courses in areas such as instructional design, learning theory, research methods, design-based research, online and blended learning, educational data and AI, technology-supported curriculum and instruction, and teacher education. The successful candidate will also show interest in participating in existing, or creating new, interdisciplinary collaborations that explore innovative and responsible uses of AI and Learning Technologies.

We also contribute to the state through the preparation of educators and health professionals and through a large network of external partnerships.

Over the past five years, the college has expanded its academic programs and enrollment. The college serves students from major metropolitan areas, smaller cities, rural regions, and border communities in Texas, while also welcoming students from other states and countries. Our students' diverse experiences and perspectives strengthen the college's mission to prepare educators, professionals, researchers, and leaders who can address pressing educational and community needs.

The University of Texas at Austin is the state's leading research university, with approximately $1.3 billion in annual research expenditures and a total enrollment of more than 55,000 students. The campus is situated in Austin, one of the nation's most dynamic and fastest-growing cities, and it is in a state that offers outstanding opportunities for scholarly inquiry. Texas is home to more than 10% of the nation's PK-12 student population, and approximately 30% of Texas students speak a home language other than English, collectively representing more than 100 languages.
