ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF DANCE - TENURE-TRACK– JOB CODE: 11977

Position

The Division of Dance at Texas Woman's University invites applications for the full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Dance starting August 2026. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in dance or a closely related field and be actively engaged in a combination of physical practice, creative process, and theoretical inquiry. We seek applicants who have an interest in teaching in a variety of settings, from in-studio dance practice classes to dance theory in Ph.D. seminars.

The Division is interested in supporting a faculty member with a commitment to integrating practice and theory, practice-as-research and dance-making practices. The Division is particularly interested in a faculty member with a culturally or philosophically distinct perspective in dance through an active movement and pedagogical practice in dance forms, including African Diasporic, Latinx, Indigenous, Middle-Eastern or Asian dance forms. Applicants who have a distinct interest in pedagogical practice are encouraged.

Applicants must have teaching experience, distinct scholarship, and potential to build a service record commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant professor in an accredited dance program. Strong applicants will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in one or more of the following teaching contexts: pedagogy, contemporary dance practices, dance studies, somatics, dance making and interdisciplinary studies. They will also have an active research agenda with a record of regional and national presentations. Furthermore, strong candidates will demonstrate the interest and potential to engage in active, collaborative service to the division, university and profession. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse body of students.

Responsibilities

Because the Division values praxis that builds across the communities of learners we serve, responsibilities include teaching across all the Division's programs, including teaching doctoral seminars, advising doctoral and master’s students, and studio practice, at all levels of the B.A., M.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. Additional responsibilities include participating in shared governance through committee service, and making substantive contributions to the growth and development of the TWU Division of Dance project initiatives. Scholarly productivity in the form of presentations/performances in national and/or international forums is required.

To Apply

Review of applications will begin November 15, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.

Please submit the following items with your application by going to https://twu.edu/humanresources/careers-at-twu/jobs/#en/sites/CX_1 and entering the job code above.

A cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, writing sample, and research philosophy, evidence of teaching ability (such as teaching evaluations and/or syllabi), a sample of artistic/scholarly output (such as publications, presentations, performances, screendance or installation work) that can be in the form of a Vimeo or on-line link; and three letters of recommendation. Additional materials and/or references may be requested at a later date.
