Assistant Professor of Education

the possibility of renewal contingent on performance, curricular need, and funding.

Art education at Iowa State prepares pre-service teachers to teach visual art across K–12 settings through art-centered, interdisciplinary, and community-engaged approaches. The successful candidate will teach two undergraduate courses each semester, in consultation with the Chair, primarily in the department’s art education (ARTED) offerings—including ARTED 2090 (Methods of Teaching in and Through Art) and ARTED 2110 (Introduction to Art Education). These courses introduce discipline-specific and interdisciplinary methods that foster creativity, collaborative learning, aesthetic sensitivity, and appreciation of art across cultures. Teaching responsibilities include preparing syllabi, course materials, and assessment tools; holding office hours; and participating in relevant program and faculty meetings. Pedagogically adaptive and innovative approaches to teaching are expected.

The School of Education offers a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Secondary Education, which now includes an art endorsement area at the 5–12 level. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum planning for the art endorsement and to the continued growth of art education at Iowa State.

The Department of Art and Visual Culture is committed to sustaining a collegial, positive, and productive environment for each individual and the collective benefit of all. All faculty members are expected to exhibit and convey good citizenship within department, college, and university activities, interact collegially, and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior.
