The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor in English, specializing in professional and technical writing and composition pedagogy to teach first-year writing and English majors' courses in writing, both seated and online. The candidate will also be expected to develop and teach graduate courses in writing. The position is an academic year, tenure-track appointment that reports to the Chair of the Department of English and will begin on August 1, 2024. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs.
The successful candidate will teach first-year writing (Eng. 1101 and Eng. 1102), co-requisite support courses, English majors' courses in writing, and graduate courses in the interdisciplinary MALS and MAT degree programs, both seated and online. The candidate will also be expected to develop and teach graduate courses and recruit and mentor majors. The position is an academic year, tenure-track appointment that reports to the Chair of the Department of English and will begin on August 1, 2024. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs.
The Department of English offers undergraduate degrees and minors in English, with concentrations in writing (creative and professional), literature, and secondary education. The department also teaches first-year writing and literature survey courses in the general education curriculum. It offers English courses in two graduate degree programs: the multidisciplinary Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and the Master of Arts in Teaching in English. Required Qualifications
- A PhD in English, specializing in professional and technical writing and composition pedagogy. ABD candidates with a firm dissertation defense date may be considered
- A record of successful college-level teaching at the undergraduate level, both seated and online
- Knowledge of the application of technology to enhance teaching and learning
- Interest in teaching graduate students in the MALS and MAT programs
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
