Post Summary

In 2025, the Department of French at Trinity College Dublin secured a government-funded contract to deliver a Postgraduate Diploma in French for Secondary School Teachers. This two-year programme responds to a recognised national need for a greater number of well-prepared post-primary French teachers and addresses the underrepresentation of French at secondary level.

The Diploma was successfully launched in Michaelmas Term 2025, with contributions from across the Department. The Department now seeks to appoint a full-time Assistant Professor in French to coordinate and deliver the programme over its initial three-year cycle.

  • Teach both first- and second-year cohorts, except where contributions are provided by other colleagues
  • Contribute to the academic and administrative oversight of the programme
  • Participate in assessment, student support, and programme development

Contract Status

This appointment is offered on a Specific Purpose Contract.
The post exists solely for the coordination and delivery of the Postgraduate Diploma in French for Teachers and will conclude upon completion of the associated activities. The contract is not of indefinite duration, and employment will terminate once the specific purpose has been fulfilled.
