Assistant Professor of General Dentistry - Simulation
Job Description
Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine is seeking a full-time general dentist to serve as Core Simulation Faculty at its Joplin, Missouri campus. This role focuses on pre-clinical education within the simulation laboratory, where faculty guide students in developing foundational clinical skills, critical thinking, and professional competencies while fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment grounded in high academic and clinical standards.
Core Simulation Faculty are responsible for delivering didactic content, supervising simulation and standardized patient care experiences, and assessing student performance through practical examinations and other evaluative methods. The role includes providing timely feedback, grading competencies, and ensuring students are prepared to transition into direct patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and revise learning objectives and associated assessments for pre-clinical coursework.
- Actively participate in simulation clinic exercises.
- Deliver didactic and simulation-based instruction, including demonstrations of proper procedural techniques.
- Facilitate simulation clinic exercises and support student skill development in the pre-clinical setting.
- Supervise and facilitate standardized patient experiences, fostering communication, professionalism, and clinical decision-making skills in a controlled, patient-centered environment.
- Help students achieve competence in the pre-clinical setting.
- Provide formative and summative feedback to students across simulation and standardized patient encounters.
- Assess student performance through practical exams and other evaluation methods.
- Grade assessments, assess student progress, and assist in remediation protocols.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure calibration and consistency in student assessment.
- Support students' successful transition from pre-clinical training to clinical care.
Qualifications
- D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree required.
- Current dental licensure in Missouri, or eligibility to obtain an unrestricted Missouri dental or faculty license (candidates licensed in another U.S. state or Canada will be considered).
- Prior teaching experience and/or advanced training in general or restorative dentistry preferred.
