Assistant Professor of Genetics Counseling (in Medical Humanities and Ethics)

The Division of Ethics is seeking a dedicated and experienced clinical ethicist to support the expansion and leadership of key educational and programmatic initiatives. This role will focus on advancing our new Clinical Ethics Fellowship Program and developing a revenue-generating Ethics Certificate Program, while also contributing to teaching and pediatric ethics efforts across the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development & Leadership
    • Serve as co-director or lead faculty in the Clinical Ethics Fellowship Program, supporting curriculum design, mentorship, and coordination with partner sites (e.g., Columbia, Atlantic Health System).
    • Collaborate with faculty and stakeholders to develop an Ethics Certificate Program modeled on successful programs such as Children’s Mercy Hospital’s Pediatric Ethics Certificate. This will include curriculum design, program structure (e.g., virtual + in-person components), and recruitment strategy.
  • Teaching and Mentorship
    • Provide teaching and mentorship to fellows, particularly in clinical ethics consultation and research.
    • Continue teaching responsibilities in the Genetic Counseling Program, as requested by program leadership.
  • Collaborative Ethics Work
    • Partner with Dr. George Hardart and others in support of pediatric ethics initiatives, contributing to case consultation, educational programming, and capacity building.
  • Strategic Growth
    • Assist in identifying funding and sustainability models for these new programs, including tuition structure and partnership opportunities.
    • Contribute to Division-wide efforts to expand training, consultation, and scholarship in clinical ethics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in genetics Counseling, bioethics, philosophy, law, medicine, nursing, or related field.
  • Significant experience inclinical ethics consultation and program development.
  • Demonstrated success in interdisciplinary teaching, mentorship, and curriculum design.
  • Familiarity with certificate or fellowship training models; prior completion of an ethics certificate program is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and collaborative skills.
