Position Announcement

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Utah Tech University in St. George, UT, invites applications for a Geology position to begin January 2026. The focus of the position is on structural geology, tectonics, field geology, and related areas. The selected candidate will teach courses at the general education through upper division level within their specialty, as well as mentor undergraduate research projects, which are required for graduation. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Geology or closely related field. The successful candidate will teach courses and be expected to contribute to the continued growth of the program. Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits of lecture and laboratory courses each academic year.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in geology and related fields, with a focus on structural geology, tectonics, and field geology.
  • Supervise undergraduate research projects, fostering a supportive academic environment and the application of skills learned in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with faculty within the department and across disciplines to enhance interdisciplinary research and education initiatives.
  • Provide instructional support for the department's field school as needed.
  • Participate in departmental, college, university, and community service.
  • Develop innovative course materials and teaching methods to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Mentor and support students in their academic and professional development.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment within the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geography, or a closely related field by the start date.
  • A record of expertise in structural geology and tectonics, evidenced by publications and/or grant funding.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to engage with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Postdoctoral experience preferred.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins January 2026. Annual salary of $65,000-$68,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
