The University of Oklahoma invites applications for a teaching-intensive, ranked-renewable-term (non-tenure track) Assistant Professor in the field of Low-temperature Geochemistry to join the School of Geosciences in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy beginning in August 2026.

We seek an enthusiastic educator who embraces innovative approaches to teaching, learning, and mentoring, and who will play a vital role in advancing the educational mission of the School of Geosciences. The candidate is expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students and will have the opportunity to advise graduate students on research projects in their area of specialty.

Teaching responsibilities will include Principles of Geochemistry along with at least one upper-division undergraduate or graduate course in the candidate’s area of expertise. Additional contributions may include general education courses (e.g., Earth, Energy, Environment; Physical Geology; Earth Resources and the Environment; Oceanography, or others). The potential to contribute to field methods courses is strongly desired. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a sustained commitment to excellence in teaching and to the mentoring of a diverse student body at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The new faculty member will join a dynamic, collegial, and diverse community within the School of Geosciences. Salary, benefits, and start-up support will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Required

  • Ph.D. in Geology, Earth Science, or a closely related geoscience field. ABD candidates will be considered, but the Ph.D. must be completed prior to the start date. Strong writing, organizational, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills. Commitment to inclusive, effective teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, equipping them with skills for success in the geoscience workforce, and encouraging their engagement as active members of the scientific community.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated record of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Experience in program and curriculum development, ideally within interdisciplinary settings. Potential for collaborative teaching or research partnerships within the School of Geosciences and across the University of Oklahoma.
