The Department of Behavioral Sciences is interdisciplinary, bringing together several fields focused on understanding human behavior and social processes. The department has a diverse faculty comprising specialists in psychology, sociology, anthropology, and related interdisciplinary fields. Psychology is one of the largest majors on campus, with 14 tenure-track faculty members. In addition to the undergraduate major, the discipline offers a master’s program in clinical health psychology. Faculty in the discipline are interested in a variety of topics including cognitive psychology, neuroscience, social psychology, health/wellbeing, clinical psychology, and developmental psychology. In addition, faculty in the department have established collaborations with other units/departments on campus, including biology, public health, computer science, and human-centered design.
The successful candidate will support both Psychology and the interdisciplinary Behavioral and Biological Sciences program and will be expected to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Tenure-track faculty teach a 2-2 course load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Psychology of Aging, Lab in Developmental Psychology, and additional courses such as Introductory Psychology, Lifespan Development, Introduction to Developmental Psychology, or courses in their area of specialization. Candidates should also be skilled at working with undergraduate and graduate students for research, mentoring, and supervision. Candidates with a focus on cognition (e.g., a specialty in cognitive aging or aging neuroscience) or health-related research on aging (e.g., individual experiences of aging or later life psychosocial processes related to health) are highly encouraged to apply, but other areas of research on psychology of aging will also be fully considered.
