Department Summary: Bridgewater State University’s Department of Health and Kinesiology is a hub for innovative health education. The department houses majors in Public Health, Health Studies, Health Science (pre-Occupational Therapy, pre-Physical Therapy, and pre-Athletic Training), Physical Education (five concentration options), and Exercise Physiology, as well as a Nutrition minor. Graduate offerings include an MS in Physical Education. The Department of Health and Kinesiology is part of the cohesive BSU campus community that provides professional opportunities for faculty advancement in teaching and scholarship and a clear path to tenure. Funding for faculty scholarship is available through the Center for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship as well as the Office of Teaching and Learning. There is also a significant institutional commitment and resources for international engagement and student research.
Through hands-on learning and community engagement, we prepare public and community health professionals, educators in physical and adapted physical education, coaches, and fitness leaders to provide exceptional leadership and enhance quality of life across the region and the Commonwealth.
Essential Duties: The Department of Health and Kinesiology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Health and Nutrition. We seek an innovative educator and scholar with expertise in nutrition who holds the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential in the United States. A strong background in public health, health promotion, or health education is essential.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of scholarly inquiry and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching. We are particularly interested in candidates who employ inquiry-based and active learning approaches that inspire and support students from diverse backgrounds.

The successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate courses in public health, health studies, nutrition, and health sciences.
- Provide holistic advising to students in the Public Health, Health Studies, and Health Science programs and the nutrition minor.
- Lead and coordinate the Nutrition minor.
- Mentor undergraduate research projects and supervise students’ field experiences.
- Contribute to university service and actively engage in community partnerships.
- Participate in undergraduate program review, annual assessment, and curriculum development.
- Provide leadership in developing a Nutrition major, including curriculum design, accreditation preparation, and alignment with departmental and community needs.

Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DrPH) in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Health Science, or a closely related field by August 31, 2026.
- Current Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential in the United States.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing scholarly activity, including publications, presentations, workshops, or creative endeavors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Public Health (MPH) and Certified in Public Health (CPH) or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credentials.
- National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) certification.
- Experience teaching courses in public health, nutrition, health education, or health promotion.
- Experience with undergraduate program review, assessment, or curriculum development.
- Demonstrated success in building or participating in community partnerships.
- Proficiency in high-impact teaching practices (e.g., undergraduate research, service-learning, global engagement).
- Quantitative and data analytics expertise.
- Strong commitment to teaching excellence.
