Chapman University invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Health Sciences in the Department of Health Sciences (HSCI) in Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, effective August 2026.

We seek a faculty member who has the potential to establish an innovative and impactful research agenda in an area relevant to public health with a focus on community resilience, disaster impact and resilience, environmental health, or aging. We also seek a candidate who can contribute to excellence in health sciences education.

Candidates with expertise that bridges public health with environmental science, engineering, data science, or social sciences are highly desirable.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the university, pursue convergent research initiatives, and contribute to the academic community’s broader mission of innovation, resilience, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a robust, externally funded research program in public health at the intersection of environmental health, disaster resilience, and climate-related health issues.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with Chapman collaborators in the fields of environmental health, community resilience, disaster resilience, or other areas to foster collaborative research and enhance student learning experience.
- Teach in area(s) of expertise and curricular need in the area of Public Health. Candidates are expected to provide academic, professional, and research mentorship to HSCI students.
- Perform academic and professional service at a level commensurate with rank.
- Faculty workload is 50% research, 50% teaching.
- Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Public Health, Environmental Health Sciences, Health Policy, Epidemiology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Established record (or strong potential) of scholarly publications.
- Evidence of (or potential for) securing external research funding.
- Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement with external Orange County and Southern California communities.
- Evidence of teaching and mentoring undergraduate students is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and the capacity to contribute to the department's strategic initiatives.

Application reviews will start Oct 1st, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $115,000 per year. Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. This position is subject to final budget approval.
