Assistant Professor of History
Applications are invited for a tenure track position (research or teaching stream) in History. St. Mary’s is a student-centered undergraduate university, and thus the successful candidate must be able to teach survey courses aimed at undergraduate students. Area of expertise is flexible, however the ability to teach the History of Ideas course (a survey of the Western intellectual tradition) is essential. Therefore, a background in ancient, medieval, or early modern European history would be suitable. Main responsibilities for this position include:
- Instruction and assessment of students in the relevant course content, adhering to learning outcomes
- Maintain excellent communication with students, staff, faculty, and Area Chair
- Participate, contribute, show initiative in issues related to program development
- Meeting the requirements for teaching, research, and service
APPOINTMENT START DATE: July 1, 2026
QUALIFICATIONS
- A PhD in History (must have by date of appointment)
- Previous teaching experience
- Record of research and publication or strong potential (if applying for research-stream)
