EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time, tenure track position

PRIMARY DUTY: The Chemistry discipline, an ACS accredited program within the School of Natural Sciences, invites applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2026. Successful candidates will contribute introductory chemistry lecture and laboratory courses for majors and non-majors as well as upper-level courses in inorganic chemistry. The ability to contribute to other upper-level offerings in areas of the candidate’s specialization is also desirable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teach an introductory general education chemistry course for non-science majors and/or an introductory chemistry course for science majors (General Chemistry I)
  2. Offer an upper-level lecture and laboratory course in Inorganic Chemistry, required for students completing the ACS certified major in Chemistry.
  3. Contribute to other offerings in the discipline, as needed, which may include Chemistry Seminar, Laboratory Safety, or courses in the applicant’s area of specialization.
  4. Cover a typical annual teaching load of 12 load hours per term (fall and spring).
  5. Develop scholarly activity that involves undergraduate students.
  6. Serve the School of Natural Sciences and University on committees as assigned.
  7. Hold seven office hours/week.
  8. Provide additional student support in the form of academic advisement, mentorship, or other student assistance as appropriate.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the School of Natural Sciences.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Ph.D. in Chemistry with specialization in inorganic chemistry; ABD candidates will be considered and hired at the instructor level until successful completion of their terminal degree

Skills: Good classroom management and lecture skills

WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical university classroom, office, and laboratory conditions

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Common classroom teaching equipment, laboratory instrumentation, research-grade equipment and instrumentation, and computational facilities

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete essential functions in the classroom and laboratory
