Job Description

Ohio University Lancaster is seeking candidates for an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Nursing, non-tenure track, position available August 16, 2026. Teaching will be at the associate and baccalaureate degree levels. Successful candidates will be required to be on campus and/or at regionally located clinical site assignments throughout the academic year (August – May).

This position is expected to plan, implement, and evaluate instruction using various methods and delivery modes. Instruction may be in the classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical setting. Faculty mentorship is part of the instructional role, and faculty participate in these activities. The Assistant Professor of Instruction for Nursing reports to the Associate Director of Nursing for the Lancaster campus.

Service activities will occur within the School of Nursing, the College and/or Regional Campus, the University, and the discipline of nursing. Service activities will include, but do not need to be limited to, committee work, special assignments, active participation in professional groups, and relevant community activities. Participation in scholarship is not required. All School of Nursing faculty members are expected to collaboratively and actively engage in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of student instruction and to participate in School of Nursing governance to ensure program standards and outcomes are fully met.

The School of Nursing, housed within the College of Health Sciences and Professions, has six locations in Southern and Central Ohio and is one of the top 10 largest nursing schools in the country. The school is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. The school focuses on fostering the preservation, promotion, and restoration of health in both the local and global community.

Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assists learners to identify their own learning needs.
  • Identifies needs of learners relative to the objectives of the program.
  • Works closely with other nursing faculty to plan, implement and evaluate student learning experiences.
  • Determines, selects, and organizes facilities, equipment, and materials necessary for learning in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.
  • Prepares course syllabi, exams, class handouts, online materials, audiovisual materials, etc. as needed.
  • Selects and organizes learning experiences which will assist learners to meet relevant learning outcomes.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates simulated learning activities.
  • Plans within the educational unit, with nursing service and allied groups for the learning experiences of students that maximize safe care of clients/patients.
  • Modifies courses for distance learning where appropriate.

Teaching assignments/instructional responsibilities will be considered based on candidate expertise and/or credentials.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree in nursing (MSN) from an accredited school of professional nursing is required at the time of application.

At least two (2) years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse. Minimum of two years (24 months full time equivalent) of clinical nursing experience in the United States is required.

Must hold a current unencumbered nursing license or be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio as a registered nurse. Faculty may be asked to obtain licensure in other states where nursing students attend clinical experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

At least five (5) years of experience in the nursing profession with at least two (2) years as a faculty member in an ADN or BSN program is preferred.

A doctorate in nursing or a related field is preferred.

Experience in obstetrics, leadership & management, and/or community health nursing is preferred.

Experience in leadership, capstone, and orientation & training of newly graduated nurses.
