Assistant Professor of Instruction --- Semantics
The Department of Linguistics at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction for the 2026-27 academic year. Teaching needs include introductory undergraduate and graduate semantics courses. We seek applicants with expertise in any area of semantics/pragmatics, ideally those whose research fits well with our current research group in syntax and semantics, and who can potentially connect with the department's other core research areas: descriptive and documentary linguistics, historical linguistics, computational linguistics, sign language linguistics, and phonetics and phonology, and psycholinguistics. This one-year appointment carries a 2-2 teaching load, allowing time for the successful applicant to advance their own research, as well as to engage with and participate in advising undergraduate and graduate students, while contributing to the intellectual life of the department.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field by the time of appointment.
Application Instructions
Applicants are asked to upload a letter of application, a CV, a statement describing their research program, a statement of teaching interests (including a list of courses that the applicant would be prepared to teach), evidence of past teaching performance or teaching potential, three letters of recommendation, and three writing samples. The department will begin reviewing applications on June 26, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.
