Position Description

The Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time Teaching Stream position in Mathematics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Mathematics or a closely related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.

We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates must have experience teaching at the undergraduate level in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and creation of online materials/lectures.

Candidates must also show a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical inquiry and an interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. Applicants from any area of Mathematics are welcome.


Evidence of Teaching Excellence

Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical commitment can be demonstrated through:

  • Teaching accomplishments, awards, and accolades
  • Presentations at significant conferences
  • A comprehensive teaching dossier (see required materials below)
  • Strong letters of reference from referees of high standing

Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and to fostering a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.


About the Department

The University of Toronto is an international leader in mathematics research and education.

We seek candidates with the intellectual curiosity and drive to pursue innovative pedagogical methods and who are interested in establishing a long-term career as a teaching stream faculty member at UTSC.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant group of teaching stream faculty engaged in pedagogical and curricular innovation and teaching-related research. Faculty are expected to combine disciplinary expertise with best practices in teaching to:

  • Create inclusive and diverse learning environments
  • Promote equity and integrate research into teaching
  • Develop students’ skills and ethical awareness

In addition to teaching, successful candidates will engage in departmental service, program development, and collaboration with colleagues.
