Drury University’s Department of Music and Theatre invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music position, serving as Director of Choral Activities beginning in Fall 2026. We seek a skilled and collaborative choral music educator to recruit and lead a vibrant choral program within a liberal arts context.
Position Responsibilities:
- Recruit and retain both music majors and non-majors for participation in choral ensembles.
- Provide artistic and administrative leadership for the choral program, including three ensembles:
- Drury Chorale (60+ students, non-auditioned)
- Drury Singers (30+ students, auditioned)
- Chamber Choir (12 students, auditioned)
- Conduct rehearsals and performances, select and program repertoire, and lead biennial tours.
- Teach courses in conducting, applied voice, music education (if qualified), and general education, based on departmental needs and candidate expertise.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students in music and music education.
- Maintain an active profile of scholarly and/or creative work through performance, presentations, and publications.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in music, music education, or a related field (Ph.D. or D.M.A.); ABD considered if degree is conferred by August 2026.
- Demonstrated excellence in choral conducting and rehearsal leadership.
- Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level or strong potential for success.
- Record or promise of scholarly/creative productivity, including conference presentations, publications, and innovative programming.
Preferred Qualifications:
- K–12 teaching experience in choral music and/or general music.
- Familiarity with liberal arts education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Expertise in a specialized area such as music technology, musicology, or pedagogy.
