Post Summary

The AIB Trinity Climate Hub, together with the School of Natural Sciences and the Discipline of Geology, seeks to appoint an AIB/E3 Assistant Professor in the area of Earth System Modelling.

  • The successful candidate will utilize numerical modelling of complex geochemical datasets to advance understanding of the Earth system and its interconnected components: geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere, and (bio)geochemical cycles.
  • The applicant should have an established reputation in teaching and research in Earth System Modelling.
  • Candidates are expected to:
    1. Develop a novel and internationally competitive research programme
    2. Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Geosciences and interdisciplinary curricula across the School
    3. Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students within the School of Natural Sciences (Geology, Geography, Botany, Zoology) and the E3 Learning Foundry (Schools of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science & Statistics)

Scientific Context:
Even near-future predictions of global climate change carry uncertainty due to the complexity of interconnected physical, chemical, and biological processes. Geology contributes a deep-time perspective, quantitative methods, and a systems approach essential to climate research. Geological records provide the long-term baseline for natural climate variability and inform carbon cycling, natural hazards, and resource availability.
