Job Description

The Departments of Medical Imaging at St. Michael’s Hospital (SMH) and the University of Toronto are currently recruiting a full-time, fellowship-trained, academic diagnostic neuroradiologist to join our Neuroradiology Division.

The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant division that provides CT and MRI services supporting a strong referral base in:

  • Neuro-oncology
  • Neurology
  • Neurovascular
  • Spine
  • Skull base
  • General neurosurgery
  • Community outpatient services

The division also supports a busy multidisciplinary neurointerventional service. The group is heavily involved in clinical activity, teaching, and research. The successful candidate will participate fully in the University of Toronto academic programs and train medical students, residents, and Neuroradiology fellows. The academic position description will be assigned based on the candidate’s teaching and/or research strengths.

Candidate Requirements

  • Self-starter and team player comfortable interpreting all types of neuroradiological studies (plain film, CT and MR, lumbar puncture, and myelography).
  • Experience with quantitative MRI analysis of neuroimaging biomarkers (DTI, perfusion imaging), pulse sequence optimization, functional imaging, neurovascular imaging techniques (high-field vessel wall imaging) is desirable.
  • Experience and/or formal training in PET-CT, particularly in amyloid brain PET for dementia, is an asset.
  • Must hold an MD or equivalent, be board-certified or board-eligible in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent.
  • Eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario.
  • Preference given to candidates with two-year RCPSC accredited fellowship in neuroradiology or equivalent experience. Subspecialty exam completion is desirable.

Compensation

  • Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Estimated income range: $400,000 to $600,000 per annum (full-time equivalent), with opportunity for increased salary based on experience and academic credentials.

Hospital & Department Overview

  • St. Michael’s Hospital: A 600-bed tertiary care and trauma centre, one of four principal teaching hospitals of the University of Toronto.
  • Department has 3 multi-detector CT scanners, 4 MRI scanners (two 1.5T, two 3.0T), and a portable ultra-low field 0.064T head MRI scanner (first clinical implementation in Canada).
  • New PET-CT operational in 2026; additional CT scanner for ED planned.
  • Strong research support through a Research Chair in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence.
  • Affiliated research institutes: Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and Keenan Research Centre.
