Description

The Department of Speech-Language Pathology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three-year, full-time, contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in the combined areas of biomedical engineering and speech, language, and/or swallowing science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Candidates must have:

  • PhD degree in biomedical engineering or a related research area
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in rehabilitation engineering and biomedical image and signal processing, specifically in speech, language, and/or swallowing science
  • Completion of a post-doctoral fellowship in biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and speech-language pathology
  • Experience in supervising research students and/or trainees

The successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Evidence of research excellence may be demonstrated by:

  • High-quality peer-reviewed publications in leading journals
  • Peer-reviewed funding
  • Research statement (submitted)
  • Presentations at significant conferences
  • Awards and accolades
  • Strong endorsements from referees of high standing

Evidence of teaching excellence will be demonstrated through:

  • Teaching accomplishments and teaching dossier
  • Teaching statement
  • Sample course syllabi
  • Teaching evaluations
  • Strong letters of reference

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate clinical and scientific knowledge into teaching design and delivery, as well as alignment with the University of Toronto’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.

Compensation

  • Expected salary range: $115,000 – $130,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience
  • Negotiations beyond this range for exceptionally qualified candidates
