healthy newborns in the busy well-baby nursery, located at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. · Provide comprehensive medical evaluation and management of healthy and medically complex newborns in the Well Baby Nursery, delivering evidence-based, family-centered care from admission through hospital discharge. · Admit, evaluate, and discharge newborn patients, including conducting admission histories and physical examinations, developing and implementing treatment plans, coordinating discharge readiness, and ensuring appropriate outpatient follow-up. · Provide clinical coverage for the Well Baby Nursery on a rotating schedule, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and shared call responsibilities, to ensure continuous physician coverage and timely evaluation and management of newborn patients. · Perform daily newborn rounds and manage common neonatal conditions, including feeding difficulties, hyperbilirubinemia, hypoglycemia, neonatal abstinence syndrome, and other conditions requiring close monitoring or intervention. · Collaborate with obstetric, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatal intensive care, nursing, lactation, social work, and pediatric subspecialty teams to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary care and seamless transitions throughout the newborn hospitalization. · Educate and counsel parents and caregivers regarding newborn health, breastfeeding and nutrition, safe sleep practices, immunizations, routine newborn screening, and discharge instructions to support a safe transition to outpatient pediatric care. · Teach and supervise trainees in the clinical care of newborns, while participating in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and scholarly activities that advance the clinical, educational, and research missions of the Department of Pediatrics. commitment of diversity Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and Educator.
