Position Description

The Department of Political Science at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time (100%) tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Black Politics. The search is open with respect to methodology. This position will involve teaching assignments for both introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, capable of supporting large enrollments from diverse student populations, as well as graduate seminars. The position directly supports the unit’s commitment to working with diverse student and community groups. Tenure-track faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

Washington State law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 - $15,000 per month on a 9-month basis ($90,000 - $135,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The position will begin on September 16, 2025, and is full-time with a 9-month service period (September 16 – June 15).

Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching and research in the study of Black Politics. Applicants must have a Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in Political Science or a closely related field by the start of the appointment.

  • A 1-page diversity statement (describing the applicant’s record of engagement with issues around diversity and equity and how their scholarship and teaching support diverse communities)
  • Three letters of recommendation
