Assistant Professor of Political Science: Black Politics
The Department of Political Science at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time (100%) tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Black Politics. The search is open with respect to methodology. This position will include teaching assignments for introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses with capacity for large enrollments of diverse students as well as graduate seminars. The position directly supports the unit’s commitment to working with diverse student and community populations. Tenure track faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 - $15,000 per month on a 9-month basis ($90,000 - $135,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The position will begin on September 16, 2025 and is full time with a 9-month service period (September 16 – June 15).
Applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching and research engaging the study of Black Politics. Applicants must have a Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in Political Science or closely related field by the start of the appointment.
Applications should include a 1-2 page cover letter, current CV, writing sample, 1-2 page research statement, 1-2 page teaching statement, 1 page diversity statement and three letters of recommendation. The research statement should describe the applicant’s substantive research interests and accomplishments. The teaching statement should include the following: describe the applicant’s teaching philosophy, list undergraduate and graduate level teaching interests, and provide evidence of teaching effectiveness, if applicant has prior teaching experience. The diversity statement should describe the applicant’s record of engagement with issues around diversity and equity, and how their scholarship and teaching support diverse communities.
