Assistant Professor of Political Science
Job Summary
Teaches courses in the discipline area of Political Science. Develop and design curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement. Provides advise and academic support to students, maintains class-related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Teaches a typical load of 12 semester-hours of undergraduate courses each semester in Political Science in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. Develop and design curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement. Provides advisement and academic support to students. Maintains class-related records and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Participate in departmental, college, and university-required activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a master's degree, including 18 hours in Political Science or a related field. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in traditional classroom settings and/or online. An established interest in scholarship to seek publications in refereed journals and other scholarly outlets. A commitment to student engagement and academic success. Ability to communicate effectively, participate in departmental and university activities, and mentor students.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Earned doctorate from an accredited institution. Years of experience: 3 or more years of teaching experience. Proven track record in scholarship, including publications and grant writing. Experience mentoring students, especially undergraduate students. Ability or interest in collaborating across departments or programs. Skills: Interactively engaging students to develop their enhanced critical thinking. Abilities: Communication at all levels and student success focus.
