Assistant Professor of Practice & Program Director – Paramedic Science
Position SummaryThis position plays a critical role in advancing excellence in paramedic education through high-quality instruction, program coordination, and administrative oversight. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in prehospital emergency medical services and a strong commitment to student success and professional standards.
This faculty member will be responsible for delivering didactic and skills-based instruction, coordinating laboratory, clinical, and field internship experiences, and supporting the administrative requirements of program accreditation at both the EMT and paramedic levels.
Key Responsibilities Teaching & Instruction- Teach undergraduate courses in EMT and Paramedic Science consistent with department needs and expertise.
- Develop course syllabi, assignments, and evaluations aligned with program learning outcomes and national EMS education standards.
- Provide hands-on instruction in lab environments using simulation and scenario-based teaching.
- Incorporate current clinical and operational practices into teaching to reflect the evolving EMS profession.
- Assist in scheduling and managing laboratory sessions, simulation exercises, clinical site rotations, and field internship placements.
- Coordinate with clinical and field preceptors to ensure appropriate supervision and documentation of student competencies.
- Collaborate with faculty and administrative staff to ensure smooth execution of program logistics.
- Support the maintenance of accreditation standards for both EMT and paramedic levels (e.g., CoAEMSP, MA OEMS).
- Assist in data collection, report writing, self-study preparation, and response to accreditor inquiries.
- Stay current with state and national regulatory requirements impacting EMS education.
- Advise and mentor students in their academic progression, certification/licensure processes, and career development.
- Participate in recruitment and retention activities within the Paramedic Science Program.
- Participate in department meetings, college committees, and ongoing faculty development.
- Support program outreach initiatives, including partnerships with local EMS agencies and regional stakeholders.
- Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Emergency Health Services, Public Safety, Healthcare Administration).
- Current certification as a Paramedic (National Registry and/or Massachusetts).
- Minimum of three years of recent, active paramedic experience.
- Prior teaching or training experience in EMS education settings.
- Knowledge of CoAEMSP accreditation standards and experience with administrative aspects of EMS programs.
- Current AHA provider and instructor certifications for BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Experience with simulation-based learning technologies.
- Advanced specialty provider and instructor certifications (AMLS, PHTLS, EPC, TECC)
- Familiarity with electronic documentation systems used in EMS education (e.g., EMCE, Platinum Planner, FISDAP).
