Assistant Professor of Psychology, Clinical Child Psychology
Job Details
The Psychology Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Clinical Child Psychology. Potential candidates may have an academic background in clinical psychology, developmental psychopathology, or related discipline, with a focus on children. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests concern the developmental sequelae of adverse childhood experiences (e.g., abuse, neglect), the life trajectories of atypically developing children, and/or the neurological underpinnings of clinical disorders in childhood or adolescence. A PhD in Clinical or Counseling psychology is strongly preferred. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning in the fall semester of 2026, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.
The Psychology Department has a strong tradition of teaching and research excellence. Faculty will be provided with research support. Faculty are eligible for conference travel reimbursement and may apply for supplementary support for teaching and research initiatives. As a ‘gateway’ STEM field, Psychology is committed to exploring pedagogy that will engage students. Courses within the department typically enroll 35-45 students at the 100 and 200 levels and 12-15 students at the upper levels.
Faculty collaboration, support, and mentoring are available to assist faculty in further developing pedagogy that values diversity and fosters inclusion.
The faculty member will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of clinical psychology, including a seminar and advanced methods course within the incumbent’s specialty. Interest in contributing to Introduction to Psychological Sciences, the Research Method sequence, or one of Oberlin’s related curricular areas (e.g., Cognitive Science, Data Science, Education Studies, Global Health) is a plus.
The faculty member will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising, mentoring undergraduate research, supervising winter term projects, and service on committees.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is a PhD in clinical or counseling psychology (or closely related field) in hand or expected by the first semester of the academic year 2025-26.
Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
