Assistant Professor of Psychology (Forensic Psychology)

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychological Science with a preferred start date of August 2026. This is a nine-month contracted position. The area of specialization is forensic psychology and includes all areas of focus within that specialization (e.g., clinical, social, cognitive). This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

Strong scholarship, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching and engagement, is expected of all faculty members in the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kennesaw State University. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate a record of impactful research and teaching excellence.
  • Teach courses in their area of specialization and courses that are part of the required core in the psychology major.
  • Teach courses of variable size and modalities, including large class sizes.
  • Kennesaw State University has a flexible workload model with standard teaching loads ranging from 6-9 credit hours (2-3 courses) per semester. The teaching load is negotiable depending on research productivity and extramural funding.
  • Engage in programmatic research that results in publications in refereed journals. Those on a research-intensive track are also expected to secure extramural funding.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education and mentorship.
  • Service to the Department, College, University, and/or profession is expected.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • A Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Psychology or a related discipline is required at the time of hire.
  • Evidence of promoting student success.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the university level.
  • Demonstrated record of research and scholarship within the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialization in forensic psychology or psychology and law as demonstrated by prior coursework and research focus.
  • High priority will be given to those who can teach courses related to their specialization, in addition to Introduction to General Psychology, Careers in Psychology, Research Methods, and/or Capstone in Psychological Science.
  • Effectiveness in teaching in different modalities (i.e., face-to-face, online, hybrid).
  • Effectiveness in teaching in different course sizes, including large classes.
  • Effectiveness in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience or potential in securing extramural funding.
