Merrimack College is excited to announce an opportunity to contribute to the institution’s evolution into an outstanding regional research university. The School of Engineering and Computational Sciences invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a research program that addresses interdisciplinary or applied areas such as quantum-AI hybrid systems, quantum algorithms, quantum cybersecurity, or AI-enhanced quantum simulations, establish or maintain an externally funded research program, and direct the research of students, as well as teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the establishment and growth of a quantum computing hub at Merrimack College to facilitate faculty research and provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to contribute to the advancement of basic and applied science with real-world impact. As part of our strategic plan, the Agenda for the Future, we are on the path to achieving Carnegie R2 designation for high research productivity and have a vision to launch doctoral programs in applied engineering and computational sciences within the next five years. This faculty position will be integral to the College’s pursuit of R2 status and contribute to interdisciplinary research growth across the College.

Position Overview
The School of Engineering and Computational Sciences at Merrimack College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence, housed in the Division of Computer and Data Sciences. We seek a scholar and educator who will contribute to the continued growth of our innovative programs, advance interdisciplinary research, and support the College’s mission of fostering academic excellence and community engagement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and related subjects such as quantum algorithms, quantum machine learning, and applied AI.
- Establish and sustain a productive research agenda with potential for external funding and collaborative work across disciplines.
- Develop new curricula and contribute to the integration of cutting-edge topics into the computer science and data science programs.
- Engage students in meaningful research and experiential learning opportunities aligned with Merrimack’s commitment to hands-on education.
- Participate actively in departmental service, including student mentorship and activities such as clubs and makerspaces, and open houses.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field (ABD considered if degree is completed by time of appointment).
- Demonstrated potential for impactful research in areas such as quantum computing, quantum information science, and AI/ML.
- Strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching, with a commitment to accessible and experiential pedagogy.
- Ability to contribute to a collaborative, diverse, and student-centered academic community.
- Prior teaching experience at the college/university level.
