Assistant Professor of Spanish
The Department of Romance Languages at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish position. We seek scholars of Mexican, Mexican-American, and/or Indigenous literatures and cultures with proficiency at a native or near-native level in Spanish and English. Areas of scholarly and teaching interest are broad, and may include race and ethnicity, media studies, environmental humanities, queer and gender studies, disability studies, migration and diaspora, and/or postcolonial and decolonial approaches. The time period of specialization is open, with particular interest in work that bridges historical and contemporary perspectives and complements current program strengths.
We are interested in candidates who have experience and/or expressed interest in the following pedagogical areas:
- Ability to teach Spanish language from beginning to advanced levels.
- Spanish for Heritage Speakers.
- Spanish for the Professions.
- Ability to contribute to the Latin American and Caribbean Studies program.
Washington and Lee University is a highly selective, independent, co-educational, liberal arts college of approximately 1880 undergraduate and 400 law students. Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD (or ABD) in Spanish or a related field (e.g. Comparative Literature, Romance Languages).
