This is a tenure-track, nine-month Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering position. A reduced teaching load supports research development. Primary duties will include establishing an independent, externally funded research program in healthcare systems engineering; contributing to the BS and MS in Systems Engineering; and mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research and senior design projects. Duties also include teaching Systems Engineering and engineering courses as needed; supporting recruitment, curriculum development, accreditation, and School service; and collaborating with academic, healthcare, industry, and government partners on interdisciplinary research and applied projects. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs in Systems, Computer, and Petroleum Engineering. Its BS in Computer Science and MS in Systems Engineering launched in Fall 2026, and its BS in Civil Engineering launches in Fall 2027. This position is part of a strategic faculty expansion in the School of Engineering to hire 10 permanent faculty members, eight tenure-track and two instructional, beginning Fall 2027.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related discipline by the appointment start date. Applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in healthcare systems engineering through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof; the ability to contribute to undergraduate and graduate Systems Engineering instruction; the ability to mentor student research; and the potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program. Areas of particular interest in healthcare include operations research and optimization; modeling and simulation; human factors and ergonomics; patient safety and quality; AI-assisted decision support and human-AI systems; analytics, including data-driven biomarker discovery; and healthcare systems resilience and reliability. Experience or ability to pursue external research funding, mentor undergraduate and graduate research, and collaborate across disciplines or with healthcare organizations is especially desirable.
We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the University.
