JOB DESCRIPTION:
The College of Education at Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a one-year temporary position as an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education to teach in Middle & Secondary Education, including Community, Planning and Assessment, Multilingual Learners Workshop, Disciplinary Literacy, and other methods courses.
Responsibilities will include teaching at the undergraduate levels in hybrid, in-person, and online formats, advising students, engaging in service within and outside of the university, supervising fieldwork, and collaborating with other faculty to ensure consistency amongst sections of coursework.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned Master's in Secondary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field; or ABD without a master's degree
- Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience in grades 5-9 classrooms
- Knowledge of Michigan standards for middle and secondary teacher preparation
- Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Background in English/Language Arts/Literacy Education
- Experience using Canvas as an online learning management system
- Capacity to provide service to the program, department, college, and university
- Experience with designing curriculum focused on middle and secondary teacher education
- Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations
- Preference will be given to candidates who have certification and/or experience designing curriculum, teaching undergraduate coursework, or supervising fieldwork focused on middle and secondary education. Additional preferences include content expertise in a discipline for which SVSU prepares teacher candidates and the ability to integrate DEI into the curriculum.
