The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in Veterinary Radiation Oncology. This full-time, annually renewable, contract (non-tenure track) faculty appointment is available immediately and represents an exciting opportunity to join a growing and collaborative specialty service within one of the nation's leading academic veterinary medical centers.
We are seeking a colleague who is passionate about clinical excellence, teaching, collaboration, and advancing the field of veterinary radiation oncology. This position is being recruited as part of a strategic investment in the continued growth of the Radiation Oncology Service and the future development of advanced training opportunities within the program.
Responsibilities
75%- Clinical:
- Build a radiation oncology program to provide radiation therapy care for companion animals.

5%- Service/Outreach:
- Service/Outreach responsibilities may
include personal development, outreach to external stakeholders and
service to the CVM and other veterinary-related professional

The University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is one of the largest veterinary teaching hospitals in North America, serving more than 40,000 small animal patients annually and supporting a vibrant community of specialists, trainees, researchers, and referring veterinarians. Faculty in Radiation Oncology work alongside specialists across 17 clinical disciplines and have access to advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. The VMC currently houses the only veterinary linear accelerator in the state. The selected candidate will benefit from a close and highly collaborative relationship with the radiation oncologists, therapists and medical physicists within the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Medical School. Patient and machine quality assurance, as well as complex planning and delivery support, is provided by medical physicists. The successful candidate will also have an opportunity to attend contouring/treatment planning rounds, journal clubs, and research seminars in the UMN Medical School Department of Radiation Oncology for direct engagement with an active group of physician researchers, graduate students, and house officers. To further support Comparative Radiation Oncology translational efforts, we have purchased a new Varian EDGE linear accelerator with 6MV and 6-15MeV capability and is outfitted with a high definition MLC, high intensity mode (flattening free filter [FFF] mode), 6-degrees of freedom couch, and kV imaging system. The EDGE will also come with integrated software that includes Eclipse, ARIA and Velocity to allow for flexible and customized radiation therapy planning and delivery (clinical setups, 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT/SRT, SRS) suitable to the wide array of cases. A ten year service contract ensures uninterrupted and consistent hardware and software support. In vivo dosimetry is provided on site with use of an OSLD reader. Remote radiation oncology planning services are currently provided by a board-certified radiation oncologist also boarded in medical oncology. The radiation oncology control room houses a radiation planning room connected to the control room. Radiation oncology also has dedicated space within the medical oncology suite that houses a separate chemotherapy administration room and microscope/rounds room. On-site supporting equipment includes digital radiography, computed tomography (currently in the process of replacing a 64 slice Toshiba Aquilion with a 128-slice Siemens Drive), and a 3T Siemens Prisma MRI.

Location and Work Environment: Work will be completed on the St. Paul Campus at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. In-person work is required for the clinical component of the position at the Veterinary Medical Center, largely during traditional Monday – Friday daytime hours. Didactic teaching is also done in person, though other aspects of the role may warrant flexibility for hybrid work.

Qualifications
Required:
Candidates must possess a DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree and have completed residency training in Veterinary Radiation Oncology by the appointment start date. Applicants must be board certified or board eligible through the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) (or equivalent) and be eligible for veterinary licensure in the State of Minnesota.
About the Department
The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department advances veterinary medicine through clinical education and mentoring, specialized care of companion animals, and generating new knowledge through clinical research.
Teaching
Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for a significant portion of the clinical training program for third- and fourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internship and residency programs. Faculty members also participate in the veterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciences graduate programs.
Research
Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basic research, as well as specialized programs such as the Animal Cancer Care and Research program, Minnesota Urolith Center, and Surgical Research Laboratory. Research efforts are supported by the Clinical Investigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials.
Service and Outreach
Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide collaborative clinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center using cutting-edge equipment and offers consultations and continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians in the community.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $115,000 - $175,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
