Responsibilities
The qualified candidate will coach graduate voice majors in preparation for degree recitals and opera productions and will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring students. The candidate will also teach appropriate vocal-related courses in undergraduate and graduate sequences, including diction and song literature. Musical collaboration for faculty recitals will be expected.
Additional responsibilities may include instructing graduate collaborative piano students; serving as Music Director of Opera Workshop; mentoring Opera Graduate Assistants; and contributing to other instructional and artistic activities appropriate to the candidate's experience and expertise.
Qualifications
- Candidate will have completed a doctoral degree in collaborative piano or a master's degree with equivalent professional experience with a record of achievement as an actively performing, collaborative artist.
- Knowledge of and experience in working as a vocal coach with professional proficiency in English, French, German and Italian lyric diction is required.
- Candidate must have experience coaching opera and vocal repertoire, across all major historical periods, at the post-secondary and/or professional level.
- The ideal candidate must be open to a range of musical styles and approaches to learning and teaching, recruitment, creative activity, and service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Spanish, Russian and/or Czech is desired.
- The qualified candidate should demonstrate extensive experience performing and collaborating with vocal artists at the collegiate and/or professional levels. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability/interest in working in a collegial and mutually supportive environment is expected.
Other Information
FSU Opera encompasses three fully staged opera productions each year with orchestra; up to two outreach opera productions; curricular Opera Workshop and Opera Literature courses; MM programs in opera coaching and opera stage direction; and fully staged opera scenes programs. The qualified candidate will be an experienced and proficient opera coach and rehearsal accompanist and will contribute as a member of the FSU Opera team. Additional opportunities and responsibilities may be available depending on the candidate's experience and expertise.
