Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for one tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences. The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will commence on January 1, 2027.
The Department of Health Sciences is a leader in graduate education and research. The Department offers a Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Health Sciences (MHSc), and a PhD in Health Sciences, where students have the option of completing a specialization in: Social-Ecological Systems, Sustainability and Health; Epidemiology; Indigenous and Northern Health; Gerontology; and Nursing. We uphold an inclusive environment wherein diversity in beliefs and practices – as well as individual diversity – is lived, celebrated and respected. The successful nominee will complement and expand the current expertise of researchers in the Department of Health Sciences.
The successful candidate will teach in areas covered in the Master of Public Health, Master of Health Sciences, and PhD in Health Sciences programs, including, but not limited to the Specializations in Indigenous and Northern Health (e.g., Indigenous Health in Canada) and Social-Ecological Systems, Sustainability and Health (e.g., Health and Sustainability). Experience with engaged and experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired. Preference will be given to Indigenous scholars.
While a completed PhD is preferred, applications from doctoral students in the final year of their program will be considered. Applicants should have a demonstrated program of research focused on Indigenous health and related issues, for example, impacts of settler-colonialism and anti-indigenous racism, Indigenous health determinants, health equity, cultural safety, Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies.
