Assistant Professor, Political Science
The Department of Political Science at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, USA, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The Department invites applications from scholars of Comparative Politics or International Relations with a focus on non-democratic politics who are also able to offer undergraduate and graduate courses in political methodology. We welcome candidates with expertise in any geographic region whose research and teaching address topics, including but not limited to, authoritarianism, democratic backsliding, state repression, contentious politics, and intrastate conflict. Candidates who can contribute to the department's dual-title Ph.D. programs in African Studies, Asian Studies, Social Data Analytics, or Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies are especially encouraged to apply.
The Assistant Professor will have demonstrated ability as a researcher and a promising research agenda with a focus on anti-democratic governance. The candidate should show potential for excellence in instruction and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Promise for securing external research funding is also desirable.
This position will include resident and online teaching and normal university service. The teaching load during the academic year is four courses. Onsite teaching is an essential function of this job.
A Ph.D. in Political Science or related field is required by the appointment date.
Candidates for Assistant Professor of Political Science must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, scholar, and teacher in a relevant field and have evidence of growth in scholarly achievement. Duties will involve a combination of teaching, research, and service, based on the candidate's qualifications.
