Offer Description
The aim of the project is to examine how Plutarch describes cognitive processes such as thinking, understanding, memory, or learning. Particular attention is paid to metaphors of cognition, which are treated not merely as stylistic devices, but as tools that reveal ancient ways of understanding the mind and its workings. The project combines the tools of classical philology, history, literary studies, and cognitive linguistics, situating itself within the developing field of cognitive history. The research aims to offer a better understanding of ancient ways of conceptualising cognition and of the role of metaphorical language in shaping philosophical and literary reflection.
