Offer Description
The successful candidate employed as an Assistant Professor (Post-doc) will be involved in research activities related to the implementation of the project entitled “Modelling Key Structural Properties of Nanoparticles Determining Their Release into the Environment and Transport – FateNANO”, co-financed by the National Science Centre (NCN) under the OPUS-20 call.
The FateNANO project aims to answer the question: which structural properties of nanoforms of ENMs (engineered nanomaterials) determine their release, transport and fate in the environment and, consequently, human and environmental exposure?
Key parameters determining the environmental transformations and fate of ENMs, such as dissolution and agglomeration, will be identified through the development of quantitative nanostructure–property relationship modelling (nano-QSPR). This approach will make it possible to link the structural characteristics of pristine ENMs with their properties following environmental transformations.
In order to identify the nanoforms released into the environment from nanoproducts, a form-specific release model based on material flow analysis (MFA) will be developed. This new model will also incorporate the particle size distribution of the released ENMs. The comprehensive information provided by the new release model will enable full integration of MFA with environmental fate modelling (EFM), for which information on the distribution of particle forms and sizes will be a key input for predicting the environmental fate of ENMs.
The Assistant Professor (Post-doc) will be responsible for:
- supervising one PhD student developing MFA models incorporating nanoform-specific contributions;
- together with two PhD students, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI):
- integrating nano-QSPR and MFA with the EFM model;
- performing predictions of the environmental transport and fate of representative ENM nanoforms (nanomaterials: Ag, TiO₂, SiO₂, ZnO and CeO₂).
All members of the research team will be involved in data collection and evaluation, as well as in model grouping and integration. In addition, the Post-doc will be responsible for:
- presenting the research results obtained;
- writing scientific publications; and
- participating in international conferences.
